Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka designed this boutique to display fashion designer Issey Miyake‘s 132 5. collection of garments, which fold from two-dimensional geometric shapes into structured clothes (see our earlier story). Es muy interesante cómo explican el trabajo del Reality Lab como una actualización e investigación sobre técnicas antiguas de diseño y corte de ropa con las técnicas actuales de modelado en 3D por ordenador. “Japan has always created beautiful and beautifully-made things by striking a balance in work that lies between the aesthetic and the practical. Today, however is a very different era. One example of this is the current situation that surrounds the manufactures. Unfortunately, cost-cutting often becomes a factory’s primary motivating factor. As a result, talented workers, the very backbone of the local manufacturing strength, are lost.   How to pass on and educate the valuable technical skills remain as the major problem to be solved. We need to be aware that we are at a crossroads in human history, where our natural and human resources are at risk. El proyecto se ha inspirado en el trabajo del científico Jun Mitani, especialista en crear estructuras tridimensionales a partir de superficies planas mediante el modelado por ordenador. Un programa de software diseñado por el propio Mitani ha servido para diseñar las prendas de 123 5, en un proyecto llevado a cabo por el Reality Lab.
